Article 57 Dutch Criminal Code

Paragraph 1

In the case of concurrence of acts that must be regarded as independent acts and that constitute more than one serious offence (misdrijf) for which principal penalties of the same kind are prescribed, one penalty is imposed.

Paragraph 2

The penalty imposed on the suspect does not exceed the total of the maximum penalties prescribed for the acts and may not – insofar as it concerns imprisonment or detention (hechtenis) – exceed the highest maximum by more than one half.
